Magnolia Plaza

In full and very fragrant bloom at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Go as late as possible in the afternoon for the best scent.

  1. Stunning pink variety, Marie. Do you know the species and/or cultivar? Looks like stellata to me, but I've only seen the creamy white ones.

  5. Wow! Do you have any idea what will be left Easter weekend? Making that "opera trip" to NYC and hoping to at least wander a bit in Central Park and enjoy some of the NYC you have been sharing.

  6. I love the magnolia plaza at BBG! You're less than 2 weeks ahead of us, with this crazy spring. (Re Paul's query, I think the pink is Magnolia x loebneri 'Leonard Messel', my favourite magnolia.)

  7. Breathtaking. Bloom season should be an excuse for a national holiday.

  8. Magnolia x loebneri 'Leonard Messel' looks exactly right. Thanks!!!

  9. I was wrong! Just 2 days ahead. I shot 'Leonard Messel' today in Toronto! Sadly, we're forecast to go several degrees below freezing Tuesday night. That will affect 'Elizabeth' and M. soulangeana and others not yet in bloom.

  10. Thanks, Janet :-)

webb - there'll still be spring for you. Heck: Maybe the roses will be in bloom already. Visit the NE corner of Central Park, and the Conservancy gardens. Tulips. Crabapples. I hope :-)
