Julian Assange

So - votes for trumped-up charges against Wikileaks founder. Trumped up? We have to arrest him somehow?

Funny how the site is down.

Long live WikiLeaks.

Visit Avaaz.org to sign a petition to stop the crackdown against WikiLeaks:

"WikiLeaks isn't acting alone -- it's partnered with the top newspapers in the world (New York Times, The Guradian, Der Spiegel, etc) to carefully review 250,000 US diplomatic cables and remove any information that it is irresponsible to publish. Only 800 cables have been published so far. Past WikiLeaks publications have exposed government-backed torture, the murder of innocent civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan, and corporate corruption.

" Reasonable people can disagree on whether WikiLeaks and the leading newspapers it's partnered with are releasing more information than the public should see. Whether the releases undermine diplomatic confidentiality and whether that's a good thing. Whether WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has the personal character of a hero or a villain. But none of this justifies a vicious campaign of intimidation to silence a legal media outlet by governments and corporations."

You have heard of freedom of speech, freedom of information, freedom of the press? Of truth? Well, these freedoms are poisonous to a lot of people. They interfere with making money, with war, and with the intimidation and crooked dealings that make both, on a massive scale, possible.

  1. Indeed.
(Worth noting: he hasn't broken any Australian laws, but this government is not exactly rushing to offer him the diplomatic assistance accorded all citizens, as stated on Passports...)

Why don't they/we go after the loose lips that started the tittle-tattle?

  3. Thanks for the petition shout out. I've been signing everyone I come across. If anyone still harbored the illusion that we are not ruled by global oligarchy, this joint government-corporate effort to kill WikiLeaks should have erased any doubt. And the next round of leaks is supposed to pertain to the banking sector ...

  4. Yes, I've signed a local petition.
And I am delighted to see that Geoffery Robertson chambers will take the Assange case.
