Adirondack

a woman walking from her mailbox
on a country road
near the frayed railway crossing
sees the trees
beneath bands of paling cloud
the swampwater pooling
where red osiers light the way
she reads the letter down the years
she looks up
in the emptiness of leftover light
as our train passes on its way south
towards the first, pale season

  1. Very nice!

This will teach me to look better at the world next we travel, I'm pretty sure I only saw the mailbox...

  2. I've been inspired by your adirondack train travels to do the same this spring. Can't wait!
