
They're not very pretty...but I was very excited to find earthworms the size of small snakes in the Cobble Hill, Brooklyn garden to which we added perennials yesterday. We planted the garden a couple of months ago, from scratch, after adding a l.o.t. of compost and some peatmoss. It had been stomped on by builders gut-renovating the townhouse and used as a dump, and the woodlandy things I planned for it needed good drainage and a nice stew of organic matter. It was wonderful to see the worm's casts (the tiny pellets you can see below) on top of the earth, evidence of their tunneling.

Were they attracted by the Spice? ;-)
