When one has all these daily leaves, how does one eat them?
In sandwiches, for one thing. Sandwiches are weekend food.
Brown bread, Hellman's mayonnaise, Maille mustard, and last night's roast chicken. A healthy cracking of black pepper over the top.
Leaves? Chervil, fava beans, pea shoots, trout lettuce, nameless cress and red mustard.
Now go forth, and picnic.
Bring back stories.
And make your own mayonaise. It's even better than Hellman's! I make my own bread, too, but I'm getting sick of it. Would that I were in Brooklyn where there's probably all kinds of interesting bread to be had.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure when you're leaving though I'm sure you've been specific here as to when. I just wanted to wish you and your husband: happy trails! And adventures!
ReplyDeleteAnd a return to health for Estorbo.
I couldn't convince my mother to plant lettuce this early. But we might have more peas than anyone could deal with.

We have spinach up the whazzoo, so it's spinach on everything.........would rather have your beautiful greens! (and you know I am a Hellman's girl from way back, too scared of homemade mayo).
ReplyDeleteYou always make me wish we went on more picnics! Must find good places around here. I'll put it on my list.
