I have heard several mutterings about the new (for this blog) comment form. More scrolling is involved, the word catcha is not easily visible, etc. The VIP complaints come from those nearest and dearest.
So, a show of hands, please. I've put a little poll in the sidebar under the Facebook badge. Should it stay or should it go? Should I restore the comments to their original form?
Why did I change them at all? In the current version you can reply to any comment individually. In the previous comment form, you could only comment in sequence and not reply to individual comments.
This is not exactly life-changing stuff, I know. But I aim to please. Mostly...
Besides the poll... for non-blogger platforms, it is easier to comment using URL/name, if the site allows it. This a contentious issue for just about everyone.
ReplyDeletehow about also easier reading/larger font size?
ReplyDeleteOk, I had not realized that. I am a big fan of nested comments, it only makes sense. So we'll have to figure out the formatting that isn't to exciting and then you can have the best of both worlds.
ReplyDeleteNone of the poll answers relates to my feeling. I am dissatisfied with most blogger comment forms thanks to spam protection. Half the time I can't see the captcha (or whatever its called) until I already click. When I'm logged in I can sometimes go right to publish, but sometimes not. I like nested comments. Now, of course, I'm reading on the phone half the time, commenting is tough.
ReplyDeleteIt is not a perfect world. None of what I said helps.
I saw your feature in Martha Stewart Living. Congrats on the publicity, and greetings from Austin.
ReplyDeleteThe new comment form is better methinks.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I hadn't noticed that you could reply to individual comments. I think I like that. I am wrestling with an overload of change currently. I just got a new computer...what's one more change to adjust to? I'll adapt....
ReplyDeleteWhy not eliminate the word verification. On our blog we set it so any comments after 4 days have to be moderated. That should take care of spam.
ReplyDeleteWish I could use the Reply option, but it won't play nicely on my blog. I still prefer moderation to captcha. If your unfortunate reader gets trapped in that - Your word doesn't match mine cycle - they give up, and you lose the comment.
ReplyDeleteThank you, everyone.
ReplyDeleteThe word captcha is not up for grabs, sadly - that stays for spam. I do not have the person hours to moderate all comments.
I believe my French webmaster is suggesting that he may have a cunning plan...
Honestly, there is hardly any moderation to do if you set things to be unmoderated for a few days. 98% of people comment within the first few days. Try it :-) Wonder what Beence is up to ...........
ReplyDeleteHonestly...theres a new form?
