Clivias in Cape Town

My mom has a lot of clivias growing in shady places in her Constantia garden, and recently asked her gardener to trim their pretty red seedpods off, as she doesn't want any more baby clivias. She was about to have, that day, a meeting of serious gardening ladies at our house and the garden was in peak condition. After a little while she went into the garden to see how the trimming of seedpods progressing and found her gardener with a huge bunch of snipped clivias in his hands.

A misunderstanding.

My mom burst into tears. This is not a woman who bursts into tears easily.

But they made for a spectacular couple of arrangements indoors. I can only sit in this climate and look at them jealously.
