All yellow...

...in the shadow of the valley of spicebush, in Inwood Hill Park.

Tulip tree leaves and spicebush mingle on the forest floor - a perfect, protecting mulch (leave the fallen leaves in your garden beds this winter; and death to leaf blowers! So noisy, so smelly).

I found the heart of the forest:

    1. You must have some nice Blue Ridge leaf action, though?

  2. Amazingly beautiful photos - and it is amazing, that, though New York is so far from Berlin, the photos of the woods you took are so much alike those, I made this weekend and posted on my blog.

    1. Thank you! Good to see yours, too, all the way east of us :-)

  3. I'd love to leave the leaves, but aren't layers of leaves (especially maple leaves) perfect breeding places for slugs (which are the gardener's bane here in the Willamette Valley of Oregon)?

    1. Hm. I suppose so, but if you have slugs I imagine they'd breed somewhere else, regardless? That is a hard call - for me I think the benefit would outweigh slug fears, but I am also not subject to such a plague and might change my tune in your gardening shoes.

    2. Here, in MN, our leaves are not much of a problem. Apparently the earth worms that are the problem because they gobble up all the leaves. That said, I borrowed a leaf blower a week ago to blow two acres of leaves into the woods. More leaves in the woods, then, and hopefully too many for the worms to eat.

  4. Adorable...a couple of weeks ago all the leaves of my pear tree were sulphur-yellow, they looked stunning against the crisp autumn sun
