Ascent

"What are you doing up there!?"

(Then wonders whether he can grab the tuna mousse before I climb down.)

My story about how the terrace garden woke up this year is on Gardenista.

  2. I read your Gardenista post. It always amazes me how much you do with your limited space. We have a full yard and I barely keep up with it. I always enjoy seeing your kitty too! I have two and a half cats: Sophie Kitty and Molly Cat are house cats but we also feed a feral we named Gus Kitty ( we built him a house too). The raccoons show up nightly to see what Gus Kitty has not eaten. Foxes come by once in a while too. Birds from our multiple feeders are sometimes too great a temptation for Gus Kitty.

It truly was a harsh winter this past year. I lost a well established rosemary plant while a small new one survived. We finally got all our plants in. The weather kept teeter tottering so plants were delayed even here in northern Virginia. If I don’t get enough of our own tomatoes to can, there’s always the farmer’s market seconds. Basil pesto will be frozen in cubes - heavens, I’m down to my last two from last year! It’s great mixed with spinach in lasagna roll ups or stuffed shells. I don’t need to worry about the tomatillos. They always over produce so the extras will go to the local food pantry. I can salsa verde for enchiladas and eating with chips. I will also probably need to can some jalapeno jelly for my sister this year. She says she eats it with a spoon 🙄 Herbs are always welcome and really worthwhile in limited planting space. I’ll be harvesting oregano to dry towards the end of June.

Have you started investigating new apartment spaces? I’ve followed all your previous moves. It’s difficult and for me, the amount of accumulated possessions seems to rise every time. Good luck!
