Cherry blossom, indoors and out

Kanzan cherry blossoms, bought in bud from the corner store (Mr. Kiwi, a bustling hub that never closes), and now open at last. Beyond these walls and windows, the city is dripping with them, their petals chilly today after a very strange week that soared into the nineties before thundering on Friday into a storm and dropping to today's high of just below 50 degrees.

Corner stores. Whenever we think about living somewhere else, we think of the things we don't think about. Like walking around the corner to buy milk at 9pm. Or our favorite bar soap or organic eggs. How is it to get into a car every time you need something? I mean, we have a car, and she is the only thing of value that we own, but she is reserved for Adventure. (Yes, she is a she.)

I posted some of our local ornamental cherry blossoms to Gardenista, photographed over two days.

  1. One of the lovely things about living in our present (probably last!) home is that a short walk takes us to a little group of shops: a liquour store, a grocery/stationery/Post Office combo, a ladies(and gents) hair dresser, a coffee shop and a couple of other things that I don't use!
For bigger grocery runs we borrow the "spare" car; usually I go with sister-in-law. But I would miss the "corner store" should it close down.

  2. Haven't checked in with you in weeks - no, make that months! Am so glad to see that the world continues to move forward in NYC, despite the awful winter we all had. Spring in Central VA is well underway with the mid-season peonies just blooming and the early azaleas turning brown already (the semi-drought not helping the latter). My shade garden and semi-rain garden prosper with help from some irrigation, and the sun garden has been gorgeous for a couple of weeks. Now we are approaching that time between the spring bloom and the summer daylily abbondanza. Wishing you and Smoothman all the best.

  3. PS: Also so nice to see a comment from Dinahmow and know that things down under are going well, too.
