New York Spring: Fiddling while Rome Burns

These are outside a Catholic Church on East 65th at Lexington. A funny garden complete with Mary statue. Classic rose and clematis combination.

Foxgloves, needing a fox.
Rome is South Africa, where my brother Francois and wife and daughter are safe after a bad experience, complete with the old creaking-stair warning. Thank God for wooden stairs. And panic buttons.

Petrol, writes my mother, has risen by 50c a liter. Paraffin, the fuel of poor people, by 70c.

  1. I don't know what to say... At least thank god, Pokey is back! But I feel silly to be isolated in my safe Vancouver cocoon while everybody else is having a rough ride...

  2. Yeah - it makes little irritations look really, little.
