Funny thing is, I took these pictures yesterday. I saw the two butterflies today. Maybe I will see them tomorrow, too. These two little darlings had already consumed many leaves of parsley, and I dispatched them in the usual manner, by tossing them off the terrace, still attached to the stalk. I don't have enough growing space for two hungry caterpillars and my parsley. Sorry. Yes, I'm sure I set a whole lot of Chaos Theory into motion.What did I see this morning, as I leaving the house for work, but one of the little suckers marching straight back up the outside of brownstone! OK, it could have been a different one. I didn't tag them.

That was a very interesting link about the swallowtail's life cycle...note that most of the readers seemed to be concerned about how to keep the caterpillars alive and how to grow enough parsley for them ...

Yes! Yes! I'm keeping some of the eggs, but how do I keep fullgrown caterpillars in one pot, which isn't enough?

ReplyDeleteMy almost 4 year old son is in love with Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar because the caterpillar eats so much and then gets so big. I didn't realize they liked parsley so much. I'll have to plant more!
