Poppies

On the occasion of Estorbo's eighth birthday (we theenk) I received these cyber poppies from Cape Town, from his brothers Trevor and Huwi. Thank you!

I would like some Cape Town weather now. I'm not even thinking of going out on the terrace: two kikois shading the glass sliding doors and the air looks white, which is not a good sign. Last night a thunderstorm passed over the city, watched by me and he who remains nameless on blogs from the wide windowsills and open windows of the eighteenth floor of the Liberty Tower in the Financial District. A view of Manhattan I've never seen and which was mythic and dreamlike - the Federal Reserve opposite like a Florentine-Egyptian monolith, the arc lights of ground zero a couple of bocks away to the west, the aspect all angles and sheer cliff faces, the storm sheeting rain over the roofs and streets.

But it did nothing for today's temperature. Crossing the BBridge towards Manhattan in a cab last night at 8.53pm, the sign that always shows the time and temperature said 28'C. That was 1 degree hotter than it had been in the morning at 10am when I was peddling squeakily up the ramp, wishing my bike had just one more gear.Weather.com says it's 32'c. I think it's lying.

And greetings to the husbands, who are in Ohio celebrating Chris' grandmother (Gran'Ma Big White Hair)'s and grandfather's 50th wedding anniversary...remember to drink plenty of water, boys...Pace yourselves.
