The tiny garden on Henry Street, where a lady sits in an easy chair in the appropriately named - in this rare case - garden apartment, which sounds better than basement apartment, beside a reading lamp. In my version of her story this is her garden and her family lives upstairs. I have never seen anyone garden here. Perhaps she does, very early in the morning. There is always something in bloom.
What is this lily?
One of the Turk's cap lilies, such as Lilium henryi. I don't know lilies, so can't be more specific. There are many species, and many more selections and cultivars. L. superbum is a species native to our area.
ReplyDeleteHi Xris - Thanks...yes, I was thinking in the realm of L. superbum-ish, which I use fairly often in garden designs, and wondering whether this is a cultivar, as it is so tiny and only sightly recurved. A sort of discrete superbum! Quite delightful.
ReplyDeleteDon't know much about Turk's Caps and normally don't like that much orange in a flower, but gosh! that's a lovely thing! Much prettier than the more common orange turk's caps that one sees everywhere. Definitely worth finding out exactly which one it is.
