While my back is turned

The black raspberries had reached their peak just as I left Harlem.

And the blueberries began to blue. I find them more sour than last year's, perhaps because they have less sun than in Brooklyn.

The Frenchman does some collecting every day.

Elaine, a Harlem neighbour to the north, will collect them this week, and we'll keep some for a small, in-house pie, too.

So, yes. If you have a pot, grow blueberries.  Happy plants.

  1. Hi - looking at the photo of the blueberries I'm not surprised they are more sour - they have been picked before they ripened. Try leaving them on the bush a little longer - there's nothing so good as a sweet ripe b/b.

  3. It's amazing that you can grow blueberries in pots. Do you have to change the soil and root prune every year?

  4. Birds ate all my blueberries this year despite netting. Hoping to find a better solution next year. Yours look great.
