Some enormous big leaf linden trees (
Tilia platyphyllos) grow on the edge of Cobble Hill Park, the small park half a block away surrounded by brownstones and townhouses. The sidewalk beneath them lies in the deep, deep shade created by their overlapping, heart-shaped leaves. They are a tree with a secret, shared only in June.
At home on the terrace, in the evening, I smell the sweet honey scent of their tiny flowers. It is that strong. It is one of the best things about this month.
Beautiful, Marie. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHey thank you for posting this. My name is Lindsay, which I had always read means "Linden tree near water." I always thought that was kind of boring, but now I know something special about the tree and appreciate it a little more. I guess you never know what a blog post will mean to someone!
ReplyDeleteI've been planning some embroidery projects and am now thinking I'll incorporate some linden leaves/flowers into the design. Thank you again!
I love that honey smell too! But don't often come across linden trees.
