How to turn off word verification from Blogger

This is a public service announcement for all Blogger posters and their readers who hate the new word captchas or word verifications. They are impossible.

Here's how to turn them off. I am going to see if Google catches my spam in the meantime.

You cannot turn them off from the new interface.
Go to your old dashboard.
Find your old dashboard by clicking on the settings icon (little grey wheel) top right of your new interface.
It will give you a dropdown menu.
Click on Old Blogger interface
From there proceed to Settings, then Comments.
Uncheck Word Verification.

All gone.

Blog on.

  2. I used to not mind it. Lately, I am in your camp (and eating your supper).

  3. I liked the old word verification -- those made-up words were often oddly evocative -- but now that the letters are illegible, I'm not as keen.

    Thanks for the info, Marie.

  4. Thank you for this. I've passed it on to our Blogger blog admin and I'll post a link on my own blog. Ridiculous to need a magnifier to even read the silly glyphs!

  7. Agreed that the new word verification was just a pain! If the spam gets out of hand you can still set it up so you approve comments before they go live. Maybe not realistic if you get tons of comments and aren't in front of your computer much.

  8. Thanks. I don't really mind it, but I don't want my readers to have any problems. I fixed mine.

  11. PS....Oh rats.... I thought I had the answer. But now in my grey wheel drop-down menu, there isn't an old blogger interface to choose from.

    Any ideas what then?

    1. Brenda, no, I'm afraid not. How any options do you have when it drops down?

    2. Hi Marie.... There are 4 options: 1.Blogger help; 2.Send feedback; 3.Connect to Google+; 4.About our new look. (I've looked in all of these as well.)

  12. Thankyou for this - I had just spent ages trying to work out what to do as I hate the new style words and blogger help was no help. Have turned on comment moderation instead.

  13. The final chapter in my word verification woes.... (in case someone else can't find the old interface.)

With some instruction from DarkUFO from Blogger, we've been able to turn off our word verification. Yaaah! Turns out I was accessing Blogger via draft.blogger.com which turned out to be the problem.

Here is what he told me to do:

Ok, you need to stop using Draft Blogger. Using draft stops you from going back to the Old Interface. Go to www.blogger.com and on your dashboard there should be a checkbox/tickbox that says something like "Make Draft my default". Uncheck that then load www.blogger.com. You should then see the Cog icon (little gray wheel) and in the dropdown should see the Old Blogger option.

    I like happy endings!
