.

Richard Hartlage, who designed both Silas and Graeme's gardens, is also the designer of the much-lauded new Herb Garden at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. For fans of the herb garden this will be a rare opportunity to see his work in two private spaces owned and inhabited by two very different people, whose personalities speak quite clearly in their respective gardens. Silas' garden is wide, park-like and cool. Graeme's is intimate and hot! Crossing the street from one to the other is rather like crossing an ocean to step onto a new continent.

Please spread the word to anyone who may be interested. Gardeners, plant geeks, design junkies, tree and art lovers, and seekers of inspiration will all be quite happy. And you may even meet Betty, who will be there. As, of course, shall I...

  1. If the gardens are half as gorgeous as the photos - and I know they are - I could die happy in either of them. Not a chance of journeying to New jersey then, but I will be wishing I were there. Hope you get lots of support for it all.
