  2. Following the 6pm (Happy Hour here) news, PBS cuts its music and fades to the latest roll of honour.

  3. I read somewhere -- or heard on NPR -- that the children of soldiers in these so-called conflicts also have a greater than average rate of suicide.

  4. Karen - it's so long since I've thought of humans as civilized. But I guess there are those that do. I can only say it's the greatest motivator in my decision not to have children. Ain't no place for 'em.

  5. my theory is that anybody who joins the forces must already have a death wish anyway...... or do they all think it is just fun and games and a free education? ... oh, and...a pension.
It used to be army, navy and airforce guys expected to be on the front lines.... times have changed since our father's days... and volunteering because you truly believed and wanted to fight for your country....... ... well, let's face it...times have changed.... period.. .

If I remember correctly... the "other candidate" had plans to send more troops immediately... ... and more following those..... didn't he?
