Proper Coffee

To me, one of the best things of this life is proper coffee. I don't drink much of it, usually a cup a day for breakfast. But with jetlag, I felt another one was justified. After shopping for some cheap summerwear at the Constantia Village, a mall a short drive from my parents' house, we stopped at Melissa's* for coffee. It is a wonderful food shop with delicious things to eat, and an unprepossessing view of a parking lot. But at least there are trees.

I asked the waitress if I could have another shot of espresso in my cappucino and she smiled, But it comes with two shots already...

This is my kind of country.

Awfully good. At R18 or about $2.57, they are a pleasure.

  2. Yes, to finding anyone who serves and knows how to make coffee the right way.

A few weeks ago we went to indy and stopped at a place we hadn't been to for a long time. We asked 4 two dbl espresso con pannas. They made them in a latte cup and put so much whip cream, you could barely see the espresso.

    Anyway, Cheers!

  5. Hello, Koek! Going to have some more today.

Coffee Messiah - you must be scarred for life...:-(

Jeannie - I adore coffee, and find it a good reason to get up in the morning. If it's good. But I'm not necessarily a connoisseur. I don't get too precious about it. Just cross when it's bad. I usually use a Danish blend from Sahadi's (a store in Brooklyn)- which I'd characterize as a medium roast. At the moment I'm drinking Illy because someone else bought a supply - but it's usually too expensive. My preferred method is stovetop espresso maker, and half coffee/half hot milk. Flavour- wise I look for depth rather than nasty surface bitterness. When we went camping in the desert last year we had to have the espresso maker! I have drunk Cafe Bustelo with no ill effect, which is why I say I am probably not a connoisseur!

The best cup of coffee I ever had was in a cafe in Vienna. About a triple espresso with hot milk. If you order a coffee there it is never filter, always made by an espresso machine.

Hey Kat - it was rather yummy!
