Autumn trees

Amelancheir canadensis - service berry, planted as understorey growth beneath massive trees in Riverside Park, and showing brilliant autumn colour. One of my favourite trees. We've planted quite a few this year on rooftops. They're tough. Their berries taste delicious and their airy white flowers are lovely in spring.

Below, good old gingkos. Not a candidate for rooves, but another favourite street tree of mine because of its saturated fall colour.

  1. Just don't plant the females! (Or you will be forever stepping on stinky berries)
