The Organic Gardener NYC

The Organic Gardener is not quite what he seems...

Checking out the new website of an ex-Holly, Wood and Vine employee (he worked as gardener), I found that it relies heavily on images of gardens that designers at Holly, Wood and Vine designed and which the company installed (and in several cases still maintains) and passes them off as his own work. Fully two thirds of the gardens shown are, in fact, not his. At least one other is the work of another designer.

Show some integrity.

Not cool.

Update: 8/13/08: Went to this link, thanks to Julie's tip. Apparently a review of 'his' work, that reads like an ad. An inaccurate ad.  An uncredited picture of Butchart Gardens, a landmark public garden outside Victoria, British Columbia? And talk of the use of native plants, with lavender as an example? Um...geez.

Update: 8/19/08: In response to HWV's request the site has to date removed 8 of its gardens from the garden images.

  1. 66,

    This sucks.

We are not in the same business, but this has happened to me as well. I guess the shitty thing about creating a product that one can't trademark, copyright or protect under something like creative common license, etc. is the very real danger of some unscrupulous sort usurping your work and calling it his/her own. And making lots of money and/or gilding the reputation as a result.

Perhaps karma will kick him/her in the ass. In the meanwhile, might you? Could invite said person over for a drink on the terrace, introduce Estorbo, let him have at it, and then, politely upend siad person over the terrace edge.

If I had a terrace I would think about this recourse a lot.

  2. This guy should totally go down, I recognize one of the gardens being featured on brownstoner.com earlier in the season. It's the before and after shot of the backyard, with decking down the center and the birches, liriope and boxwoods with the lighting turned on. Is this a HWV garden? I definitely know some of those as HWV from the spring. Seriously, what a hack!

  3. Besides, you're liable for anything you throw off the terrace.

I'd place a bounty on his head in the pigeon community.

  4. 66, your name is Marie. Mine is Pritha.

I like what that guy holding the fish (!!!?!??!?) said: pigeons.

Angry, determined and focused pigeons that shit on each of his stolen gardenscapes. Forever and ever.
