The damselfly is Mountain Malachite, Chlorolestes fasciatus, the males can have that wonderful white banding which makes them appear to flash in flight. The Disperis is a member of a tricky species-group, and the shape of the hood is important, but I think it looks most like Disperis stenoplectron, but email me on callan@birdingafrica.com and I can send you some more info on that. The tall green orchid is tough to say without a close up of flower but it looks to me like a "Devil Orchid", Satyrium parviflorum. The evening primrose, a (lovely) alien weed of course, is likely O. tetraptera. Cheers, Callan.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11898803160486820020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8603107829473043654.post-22678510481783175312010-06-28T11:29:09.339-04:002010-06-28T11:29:09.339-04:00I'm in love with that miniature pelargonium! ...I'm in love with that miniature pelargonium!

And the beautiful noon v sunrise (sunset?) photos of the view...Jeanne @ CookSister!http://www.cooksister.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8603107829473043654.post-14832547903266159852010-06-27T17:22:47.135-04:002010-06-27T17:22:47.135-04:00I wouldn't mind taking a dip into that stream ...I wouldn't mind taking a dip into that stream right now, with NYC sizzling and melting under a brutal 36F heat index....

Very well written and shot, you made me rethink my own approach...Smoothmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17866977043552812061noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8603107829473043654.post-19964418580538139842010-06-27T16:32:17.497-04:002010-06-27T16:32:17.497-04:00Hen - actually, I should email Bongani to ask for ...Hen - actually, I should email Bongani to ask for some ID help, I hadn't thought of that.

You would not have liked NooYawk today: blerrie, blerrie hot and disgusting.

jvdh - hoe gaan dit??? Also look at the images of Ruaan Smith taken of Basuto Herdsman, raw but beautiful and powerful.

maritaELEMENTS architecturehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01055115135253924304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8603107829473043654.post-81470995049276317732010-06-26T05:52:16.450-04:002010-06-26T05:52:16.450-04:00I found Lesotho (approached from Ladybrand side) t...I found Lesotho (approached from Ladybrand side) to be a spectacular, yet very sad country. Dramatic mountains and sandstone, erosion leaving red scars. Men in blankets and gum boots, young children playing barefoot. Old women bent over smoky fires. Cannabis in large plantations in village vegetable gardens. The middle generation had disappeared, probably to the mines, for a life not really better. I read an article somewhere where an old states "they come home to die".

So a confusing mix of beauty, honesty and pain.jvdhhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03917123264206303409noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8603107829473043654.post-92215317618474185582010-06-26T04:04:05.750-04:002010-06-26T04:04:05.750-04:00Very interesting. There is an article in the latest Veld and Flora on the Katse Botanical Garden in Lesotho, the first aplpine botanical garden in highland Lesotho - by Bongani Ntloko and Jill Scott, botanist who has spend much time there and who lives in Constania !
