Our furry friend

Estorbo on the terrace, yesterday

This morning we drop Estorbo off at The Animal Endocrine Clinic on West 100th Street. From there he will be taken to their clinic in Bedford Hills in Westchester where he will become an atomic kitty.

Gulp. His hyperthyroidism has been well controlled with medication for almost two years but the last few months have been rough. So we bit the bullet, his friends and blog fans pitched in, and we think he's receiving the best care a New York cat can buy.

Which is the best care, anywhere.

We hope.

After we drop him off (with his carry on) Vince and I will take a drive, as therapy, we know not where. We'll try and get lost. A bit hard since we both have internal compasses. But we don't have a plan. The woods and fields of Westchester should have some good edible things in them, and spring is rushing in...

And of course we have a picnic.

We're not sure when we'll see Storbie again. Hopefully in five days, when his glow-in-the-dark qualities have abated to within acceptable levels.

Vaya con Dios, gatito.

  2. Last year, my kitty was treated with radioactive iodine for her thyroid as well. She is now doing quite well. Good luck to Estorbo, but I strongly believe he'll come back home just fine.

  3. We've 'bitten the bullet' and gone into debt several times over the years and it's always worth it. Looking forward to seeing Estorbo back on the terrace!

  11. Estorbo is thoroughly taken care of by you, as are we. Or me. Eating another batch of delicious 'green sauce.' Fine tuning your recipe down to particulars: half a bunch of cilantro and parsley, 6 leaves dandelion greens, 3 cloves garlic, one lime (skin peeled, but leave some white flesh) and oil. Put in the blender. THEN add juice of one more lime. Taking my mind off of Estorbo for a moment, there. Fresh start, Estorbo. Lick, lick, Vince and Marie.

  14. Sending healing thoughts and warm energy to the Cad and purrs and headbumps from the kitties. We know the hermano (as 'Kaika calls him) will be fit and feisty soon. Does the atomic clinic have a cat cam so you can check in on your boy?

    Hugs to you all,

    Keli'i

  15. Marie & Vince, our Hector had the same thing. We took him to Paris for a radioactive injection and we couldn't see him for two weeks. God I missed that cat. Anyway, he came back a different being. Full of life and altogether better. I am sure your amigo will come back with a renewed lease of life.

    Best to you.

  16. Gulp is right. Poor Storbie I'm sure he will miss his Papa (I mean Beence) & you Marie terribly. Heading out on a driving adventure such a smart thing to do. We hope time flies this week and that he returns full of vim and vigour & ready to get back at wrangling his roof top herd. Sending loads of love & comfort to all of you. xoxo Susan & the gang at Black Street

My Bóris, 12 years old, have best health than mine (tks God!) But I know the terrible feeling that invide us when a good friend is in (big) troubles...

We send you the best wishes!

  18. My kitty Oscar went through radioactive therapy twice and is in relatively good health now. No need to medicate for the hyperthyroid and his weight has stabilized. I have only just discovered your blog so hope the procedure went well.
